combination of:

- spread of votes - Tories have more seats where they get big majority, but obviosuly still only one MP. What you really want is to get 40-50% in lots of seats, rather than 80% in a few.

- lower turnout in Labour-supporting areas

- on average, Labour constituencies are a bit smaller

- tactial voting againast the Tories

- Wales.
