steve davis and dennis taylor did a "re-enactment" of the 1985 black ball final the other

day on telly. it was all very light hearted but it struck me how vividly i remembered it and what a monumental sporting event it was. obviously less TV channels then and less televised sports but oh mine, what a final. it's ironic that the increased coverage of sport has seemingly reduced the impact of the BIG EVENT, what with almost every weekend there being a "unmissable prem league super scorcher showdown sunday in HD 3D etc" and so on.... Who'd a thought back in 1985 that 25 years on the FA Cup would be a mere sideshow in which some clubs trotted out their reserve sides? oh well.
