When they were illustrating the Elder's story, they did so in black and white (which made the subbies hard to read) - and if they hadn't, you couldn't have told the eras apart.
And when the old man referred to "long ago", you really couldn't gauge whether he meant ten years or five hundred.
I loved it, me. I was quite attracted to the simplicity of their lifestyle, too, it seemed to make much more sense than wage slavery. I'd want to wear a pair of trousers, though. And a shirt on special occasions.
