Not a great performance. We really struggled with the diamond formation, Oli was in the Wes position and didn?t get into the game much, which put pressure on our midfield who were under the cosh. Elliot barely touched it and Martin didn?t win many headers from the hoofs from the back.
We really missed Wes, at least he could have held the ball and moved it around, but we were closed down quickly and ended up getting rid of it, more often that not to a red shirt.
Out goal was the one piece of real quality in the game, a decent move and the ball was passed into the net ? reminded me of Carl ?The Statue? Cort?s finish against Wolves in the 3-3 draw last season.
In between two identikit defensive shockers leaving a man for a simple finish from a standard cross into the box.
Martin hit the post from a long shot, when it was 1-1, and if that had gone it might have been different, but it didn?t and we meandered along aimlessly to half time 1-2 down.
The second half was more depressing than the first until the subs were made. I would have got Hughes on much earlier, maybe for Elliott so we might have had some sort of midfield platform to play, but he came on way too late. He should have scored when Doc, who had been posted up front, won the first header in the opposing half in the whole game.
McNamee hit the post at the end from what looked like a cross, which would earned a point and glossed over the performance which was not good at all.
Orient looked like a team revitalised by a new manager. They were not pretty, just had a simple plan of getting it forward quickly from the back and playing on the ground in safe areas.
Good to see a few WotB?ers at the pub. I met Tricky, Garry Brooke, MBK, Jafski, and APB plus Otto, SCC28, Nixon, Brandonio, and Norwood Yella.
