basic rule - if you would pronounce it with an extra 'es' sound - as you would with 'pants's post' - then you should type the extra 's', too.
(Important exception is 'Jesus', oddly - should never write 'Jesus's')
SCC has confused singular with plural rule - if there were two pants, and they jointly wrote the post, then it would indeed be "pants' post".
but there's only one pants.
So, SCC - as you would say, I think - BOOOOOM
(more generally - don't correct others' grammer unless you're sure....)
