I wrote one for my uncle's funeral last year.

It was quite a tricky one as he'd suffered brain damage as a child and then lived his entire adult life in care until he died, aged 56.

Anyway - my main tip is to try to inject a little bit of humour (not loads, obviously, because then it'll look flippant) and try to capture the essence of the person (as you see it) celebrating the life rather than commisserating the loss.

(That's assuming you've lost someone, of course.)
