One question from Saturday plus some opinions.

Does anyone know if Spillane was injured again?

I know several people were intrigued why McVeigh was on the bench yet we didn't have much cover at CB/RB?

I am guessing Lambert assumes that Drury can cover LB/CB and RB or at least shift around with Russell Martin slotting in at CB.

Full credit to Lambert for going with an attacking lineup.

The fact we have not had too many major injuries at the crucial positions this year has without doubt contributed to the continuity of the results.

When we have had injuries Lambert has been very quick to bring in solid replacements rather than make someone play out of position (as previous managers have)

As much as we can credit Gunn for bringing in some decent players, Lambert has been exceptional in weeding out the dead wood (cureton) and the bad wood (maric, semi and theo) while replacing them with younger and much more talented players. (and probably reducing the wage bill)

At this level its hard to disagree that we don't have decent players at virtually every position.

When was the last time we had 6 decent strikers on the books?

When was the last time we had 5 decent CBs on the books.

We also have about a 1000 midfield players who can do s decent job at this level and above.

Winning has been great this year but its the fact most fans can see actual progress in building a squad of our own players which has not happened for a long long time.

It's been historically proven that the gap between top of LG1 and the champs is pretty small compared to the huge gulf beween the champs and the Prem.

Personally, I think if we keep together the bulk of this squad for next year we will more then hold our own.

A team like Leicester City should be an inspiration that maybe, just maybe we have a shot at the big prize next year.
