We owned loads of players that were draining us, then we loaned a few that did wonders. Some way back in 2004, some in recent years
Of the ones we did own and I liked, we sold. I agree that I trust Lambert to sign the right players. Although I it will be a cost, I think Elliott is a brilliant signing. It's clearly not worked out at Preston, he was doing things before he went there.
Being here and getting into a successful team will make him want to be a part of next season and bring him back to form. It will just depend on what Preston want for him (and if we want him)
That'll be my worry when the next season starts. Cos if Lambert wants Elliott and we can't afford him because we've just covered the keepers position with a signing. Then I'll start being worried again, because it will mean a good manager has been promised funds, and has a strategy to go forward, but people above are stopping that
I guess that's why I'm dubious of Delia still being here. Down the years we could have signed Crouch, and others, and things could have been different, instead of maulding (eg, can't afford Lua Lua, = Abbey. Can't afford Healy = Notman, not to mention "oh Jeff whitley's brother, maybe he's just as good. Or ditto with Carlos Hasselbaink), to which a manager here ends up looking mediocre, which leads to being at fault, which often ends in exit
The only time apart from this season where we've achieved, is when we've taken a chance. Knowing that Lambert wants to go places, and can, I really hope we are in line with his visions
