Well imagine if Apple DIDN'T restrict you to iTunes and the App Store

And you had a single digital identity (e.g. mobile version of paypal & MS Passport combined) which allowed you to purchase or use any software out there seamlessly, regardless of your provider or device (PC, laptop, PDA, tablet, etc).

That would be destroying the walled garden.
