crime & punishment

Two stories covered by the super soarway Evening news:

1) A man destroys his estranged wife's cellphone & widget. Value of 'crime' = GBP 130. He is prosecuted and gets a criminal record.

2) Another man steals ?60k from clients, to enrich himself and his family. No criminal action is taken and only 1/3 of the gain is to be repaid. And he is struck off from his profession's association (but has already found himself employment in a related field).

Incredible.
