the advantage is it gives stability, and reduces the chance of malware getting into the system - however, if i bought a DVD player from Sony i don't want to just be able to play in it DVDs that are approved by Sony*

i would never buy a PC if i could only obtain software for it from one source

*please ignore the region whatsit thing that DVDs and players have for this bad analogy to work...
