It used to be that HMRC came first when it came to paying back debts

So they let clubs off if they didnt pay taxes, waited till the club was going through a period of doing well financially and then called the money back in one big lump sum.

Now all footballing deals must be paid first and HMRC have fallen down the pecking list and are less willing to wait for clubs to be successful.
