Ah, I see - you're wired from AE to the stereo and the streaming is from PC/Mac to AE?

Apple TV is different because you sync your music to it's hard drive (although I think you can stream as well)

Wireless is subject to interference of course and streaming subject to whatever else is going on in the network. What speed is the connection? AE is 802.11n I assume; but if your PC/Mac card is 'b' or 'g' it'll be a lot slower.
