Got back late last night after a great weekend in London despite the result.
Great fun in the George before hand and even some Millwall fans turned up after reading the NCFC message boards knowing where we were meeting, so some good banter was had.
Anyway my musings on the match?
From the kick off Millwall were on top, even though we went one nil up early on, they were the better side. The pitch was slow and only mud in patches which meant Norwich?s passing game would not work. Millwall adapted to the pitch a lot better and cut our defence apart a few times. Wes and Cody were non existent. Russell Martin made a really good mazy run that almost ended with a goal but for a good save from their keeper. To be 1-1 at half time was lucky and it could have been 3-1 to them in all fairness despite our 10 mins on top at the end of the 1st half.
The second half was much the same. Norwich passing backwards too often, and Millwall building some good attacks. We really miss Drury and Holt ? our two hardest working players usually. No one seemed to be really striving to get the ball, even Russell was not his usual workhorse self. Millwall took a deserved lead and we never really got back into it until the last 10 mins. McNamee was the one positive for me. He looked brillo pads for the 15 mins he got. Nippy runs, step overs and good crosses. We nearly got an equalizer when Nelson tried an OHK to the amusement of most, but it bounced fractionally wide of the upright. The game finished and I was in a strange mood, I was disappointed with the result, disappointed with the performance from most of our players yet I had still really enjoyed the match. The atmosphere generated when millwall scored was second to none. An intense wall of sound hitting you hard.
The Millwall fans were mainly teenage wannabe yobs, throwing w**ker signs/giving the finger, throwing bottles of water at us and the odd coin. It was quite fun just watching them. I took a friend with me who is what you would describe as an eccentric toff. He?d never been to a football match before and he was intrigued by the MFC ?fans?. Some comments ranged from:
?they look like Neanderthal Savages?
?Christ look what these lot bring to society?
?they actually look like they want to stab me?
Lol he kept me amused anyway.
All in all yes a disappointing result and a disappointing performance but we cannot really complain. I had a great day out, we are top of the league still, we had won countless games on the bounce and played some great footy this year. I am sure with Holt back we will step up a gear when lambo puts a rocket up their arses in training and win next Saturday.
COYY!!
