Option 2 - For the following reasons

A - They cost far less

B - The players signed in group 1 were signed for a club trying to regain a premiership place as opposed to those in group 2 who were signed to a skint club in the third tier of English football.

3 - The players in group 2 are younger.

4 - They were all s**t
