Right, so you buy an iPhone. Great bit of gear. Then, you

want to download some Apps. They control all the sale of all Apps through ITunes, so take a cut of every sale (let's forget about jailbreaking for a second because they hadn't anticipated that).

So, you think "right, I may as well get a piece of the action and write and sell my own iPhone Apps". You have to then pay $99 to register as a developer to allow your Apps onto the Apple store.

But they don't release any development kits other than Mac-based, so you have to buy a Mac.

Yes, you CAN build them using a "Hackintosh" but the development tools store info on what you built it with. If it's not on an official Mac, they won't allow it onto the store.
