certain stories have a higher fact checking profile.
Printing a story about transfer rumors is hardly likley to result in a court case if untrue.
Printing a story about a soccer star being a pedophile is almost certainly headed to the courts if untrue.
I would have thought any media outlet would have a risk assesment of the damage a story could do.
I know Mick Dennis suggested that the writer confused Notts County (NCFC)
But even then the journo proceeded to totally invent a story based on nothing but a mistaken fact.
Its bizarre on many levels.
(1) The journo would not check facts to see if the story was true. Even basic reserach would bring up recent interviews/reports that the club is safe in the near future.
(2) The NOTW has such lax editorial/corporate structure that they would open themselves up to huge damaging lawsuits by a rogue writer.
(seach Jayson Blair for details!)
(3) Not one person in the whole editorial/publishing/web publishing process, looked at the story and thought......"that doesn't make sense"
