Ian Hislop said something that was probably libellous and Paul Merton replied, "Is that all you have to do? Just put 'allegedly' on the end of a sentence and you can say whatever you want?"

Until that point, I actually thought the word "allegedly" would cover you. (I was 13 at the time.)
