Sounds more like your email address is being faked.

It's relatively easy to send an email and fake the senders address. Most server now are configured to stop an email being sent if the sender's address is not in the same domain as the server - eg. the gmail server will only send emails from gmail users with a gmail address.

However, lots of viruses/trojans now commandeer a PC and turn them into little email servers and can send spam without this check.

So your address has either been guessed or picked up off of a webpage trawl - passed onto these commandeered PCs who are sending out emails pretending to be from you - and thousands of other addresses too.
