"Brass Neck
Shameless stuff across the press this morning with regards to who in fact was the first to bring us the news about the West Ham takeover.
Predictably enough The Sun ('First again') and The Daily Star (who also claim the dismissal of Gianluca Nani as an EXCLUSIVE, despite it being in every other paper) are the most obvious candidate, but the biscuit, the cake and indeed the p**s is taken by Mick Dennis in The Daily Express, a paper not unfamiliar with the lifestyles of the rich and pornographic.
He writes: 'When I spent the night in the back of a Bentley with David Sullivan's partner, Eve, I learnt he can be a patient man.'
That suggests the start of a much more interesting story, but he continues:
'He was in the front passenger seat and we were all eating toffees provided by the chauffeur, Edward. I had travelled with Sullivan from his 14-bedroom house near Epping Forest to a match at St Andrews...Sullivan was already weary of travelling to Birmingham and talking about buying West Ham.
'He said then: "Terence Brown (Hammers chairman) wants silly money, despite the fact they have substantial debts. I'm not going to be silly."
And The Express claims this - an off-the-cuff comment made in 2005 - as a very previous heads-up on the story, bragging 'We told you'.
Incidentally, given that the debts Sullivan spent most of yesterday complaining about were notched up after Brown left the club (by a 'Mr Eggbertson', according to David), can we suggest that he has possibly been a tad 'silly' this time."
