But presumably had further parachute instalments to come. At some point - might've been before the season began, might've been during it - the board said we were only budgeting for a mid-table finish.
And yep, NW's signings were poor at that time - but I'd be surprised if, in terms of wages, he was able to get players of the quality he had in 03/4. Moreover, despite not being backed beyond that point, his last signings before leaving - Earnshaw, Croft, Dublin - were ALL good. Indeed, he was clearly dead right to sign Etuhu as well: he had the quality, after all.
