And would be interested to see how our budget compared with the competition either in 08/9 or 05/6. Did I ever have the sense we were looking to go up before the start of last season? Not at all: mid-table seemed our aim to me. The problem comes when almost every club are effectively spending too much: live within your means then, and you'll just fall further and further adrift.

Take Burnley: lauded for their success last season, but they could've ended up in admin had they not gone up. And that's a problem with the whole of English football; hardly just us.
