Happened to me for the third time 4 years ago mate.

Was msde to work my notice too which was absolute hell. Finished on the Friday before Christmas ans still hadn't got anything by Thursday. had a holiday booked and paid fro in Jan to Thailand so thought "f**k it, I'll enjoy the holiday and then face losing my house when I get back". By Thursday night had a job offer and signed the contract on Friday.
Leaving there now though as I'm fecked off with traveling weekly between Lancs and Cambs so will be looking for a job like you. However, I'm deliberately looking at contracting now.
