I think I am right in thinking

there are A LOT of misunderstanding, A LOT of misreadings of tone and this leads to the mess. You say you were joking back at Tricky, but in calling him "marv" he took that as you being annoyed and not finding his attempts at humour funny - it therefore spiralled out of control, with both people ending up offended at the others reaction.
