ashamed of this I am.

Child abuse is the absolute opposite of all the values that Jesus ever taught, stood for and died for. Covering up child abuse, exercising your power to suppress it, moving priests on to another place where they can do the same awful things - these too are the absolute opposite of all the values that Jesus ever taught, stood for and died for.

At the heart of the Christian message is love. Self-sacrificing love, reaching out to others, helping to heal hurts and not create them. This is completely the opposite of all that. I cannot believe the awfulness of this story and I am deeply ashamed and sorry for it.

I try not to get sucked into the religious debates on here because I don't think that the internet in general is the most fruitful venue for serious discussion. So I'm going to stop here. But I cannot tell you the depth of despair that something like this brings.
