You would need a strong sense of the absurd to take a gig in Lowestoft, in November. On a cold Tuesday night, the most easterly town in Britain is not a place overburdened by possibilities. The North Sea wind rattles along the dark and empty terraced streets, and the occasional palm trees seem like the punch line to a particularly cruel joke.
