Caligula was actually rather a good film

I admit I only went to see it when it came out for the T'n'A, but it was actually a powerful depiction of how utterly terrifying life must have been when in the vicinity of an unhinged despot with unlimited power. Descriptions of life under (eg) Saddam take me straight back to that film. And that includes the early scenes of life under old, mad Tiberius. Very well done.
