Think of the technological advances that were born out of that conflict.
What about the UN? NATO? In many ways that conflict paved the way for the EU.

Plus, had we not faught hitler, we'd probably have ended up fighting russia instead, about 10 years later, when they would have been better equiped for it.

That's a conflict that could well have been worse.
Maybe, or maybe not.

I'd rather stop 9/11 in some ways as its done nothing but cause more problems on a global scale.

That said, stopping that event would probably just mean another happened, I doubt the restrictions imposed as a result would have been accepted without such a graphic demonstration of the need.
