"As a manager I don't think you can ever have enough strikers and that's why we went for him." This is, of course, absolute bollocks - and represents an almost childlike misunderstanding of our position. The club does not have unlimited money - so if what is available is blown on a journeyman striker then the manager's ability to strengthen other areas is, at best, severely curtailed. We currently have no right-sided midfielders, and if the manager's first choice for that role suffers a long-term injury, or is recalled by Spurs, what would he be able to do about it if he had blown his transfer budget on yet another striker? Central defence is another problem. Fleming is coming to the end of his contract and career. He will have to be replaced. The quality of player available to the new manager will be much reduced if Worthington is allowed to buy striker ater striker.
