Trouble with that argument

is that yes/no to the Euro is not a left/right Labour/Conservative issue. You get passionate views for and against in both parties. Blair and Brown were split over it. So to say "it gets settled in a general election" isn't right: someone could really like and want to vote for all (or most of the) other policies of a party, but disagree with them on the Euro

On the other hand, I am generally in favour of not allowing stupid people more of a say in things than is absolutely necessary, and I am instinctively opposed to a referendum on anything.
