Probably some registry at the Patent Office you could search, though I think one of the fees is to cover the PO proving that your idea hasnt been done before so dont know if you can do it without handing over cash.

I'm only a contracts lawyer so havent really got a scooby about this sort of stuff. Can draft you a nice confidentiality agreement though.
