I remember going into a shop in the Alley in Cambridge (before they pulled it down and replaced it with the monstrocity called Lion Yard) to buy a pair at the time of the first Gulf War. They'd sold out to Pongos from Waterbeach. Even back then they had to buy their own footwear!!
