Came home from work the other day and my missus was chatting to you about GCSEs and A Levels (re: your son I take it?). Just logged on this morning and checked my previous posts and stumbled across it, as she always forgets to log me out before posting, so her first post is always under my name - annoying that!
Err anyway, just thought I'd chuck my tuppence ha'penny in, now that I've read some of what was said:
I got a C in Maths at GCSE and decided to try my luck at Maths A-Level...I quit after one term!
I was quite comfortable at GCSE level, knew what I was talking about and had plenty of time to get my head round things.
But at A-Level I (and to be fair, I think the whole class) was shocked by the sheer pace of it all. Most of what we had learnt at GCSE felt like it had gone out of the window in the Summer, which pissed off the teachers as they didn't think they had to go back to basics to explain stuff to us. I did the first two sections and then jacked it in.
Maybe this was just cause we were all thickos from Lowestoft and the schools there are really s**t, but I would advise you to make sure he is confident of his abilities and is really good with numbers.
We had to use some funky arse scientific and graphic calculators, none of which I can remember how to use now!
Hope this helps...bet I've just muddied the waters, though!
