is that the new contract Doc negotaited last season probably saw a salary cut but an appearance bonus making up for this, safe in the knowledge that he was a regular - even if only on the bench.

Otherwise, even allowing for naughtiness and uselessness, it seems odd that we've gone without a defender on the bench at all rather than bringing in the Doc, when Lambert does seem willing to hand out second chances.
