it's related more to a ref having a bet, rather than taking money from any players/club.
If you looked say at the Charlton match suspecting a fix then you would have felt that he was favouring Charlton massively. Yet the end result came about from a decision that was hotly disputed by Charlton. so, if they'd bribed the ref, they'd probably be a bit annoyed. But if the ref had bet on a draw then the conspiracy works much better.
I can't really believe that clubs are daft enough to take the risk, but I reckon that refs just might be. PArticularly when, as we know from SCC, you can bet on just about anything.
