I'm rather fed up with the idea of this 'loner'

suggesting that he's deep thinking and intelligent. I think he's just a moody, aggressive halfwit. Otherwise he'd go off with his dags and come back with a smart idea. And he doesn't.
Still, far richer than I'll ever be.
