And this is not a stab at you - it is how I see it. If you had been at either match - you would see my point of view. I'm guessing you are basing your opinion of how we were playing at the time from the one game you did see - Sheff U away (see how going to the games alters your opinion?). I didnt go, so dont really know how it played out - I can only take your word for it. I know people who went to both and they accept we played well and were unlucky against a good side, but that the Charlton match was pathetic.

That 1-0 game against Charlton is one of the worst games I have ever seen. Nothing to do with lack of punch up front. There was no desire whatsoever. It was my turning point with Roeder (and i'm a perennial pollyanna when it comes to managers) - it just was not working for him - they didnt want to play.

Take this Saturday - and take Holt out of the team. Had we lost, I still would have said it was a Gulf away from that Cup game. Fuck - even if we'd won that Cup game, and lost 2-0 at the weekend - with the same performances, i'd still vehemently disagree with you. Based purely on those 2 games (as you did), I dont think it could be put down to 'fine lines' - the result never tells the whole story.
