Slightly ridiculous I know

but don't you think part of the problem is that even when that realism voice was calling to us we still had some sort of rosy tinted belief that we were a little bit better, and that we weren't really in the third division playing teams like Walsall. You're right - Charlton started plannign for this months ago so were coming down in a strong position, whereas it was all a bit of a 'oh dear, how did that happen' to us' and by the time we'd realised we'd a squad of third-division players to keep us there. If Lambert can get us to a decent position, and therefore keep the season ticket revenues up for next season then I think we might escape. But if you think that we've had about four new squads in as many years, and the retained players were ones like Doc, then optimism was really misplaced.

We're just where we are, and that's being a third-division team.
