Be wary about trying to calculate your connection speed when getting numbers from Windows.

You might be looking at where windows is reporting the speed of the interface between the motherboard and the network connector, which would be f**king fast - way faster than broadband. That used to happen on XP machines if you hovered over the network connection icon in the system tray.

Your best bet is to use pantses speedtest links, first making sure that you've switched off email progs, and any other browser pages on other sites - anything that might use your internet connection basically. That ought to give you a pretty accurate reading of your connection's actual upsteam and downsteam speeds,
