I'm in exactly this situation with

my daughter. Have decided that she takes all loans available.

Tuition fees are then paid direct to the university. The rest - i.e. 'subsistence' is paid into the student's account in three chunks throughout the year. My plan is to allow her to take this debt on but to pay for the food, accommodation charges she incurs. She will get further assistance only if she really needs it.

Meanwhile I am trying to save a little each month so that when she finishes the whole thing (3 yrs) I can offer a lump sum of sorts to pay off some of the debt.

She is going to do bar work during all holidays to help support herself.

That's the plan anyway!! Trouble is I have another one due to go in 2 yrs time!
