I feel 'closer' to this side than I have done for 2-3 years

I think i underestimated the impact having your own players in the side has on feeling toward the team.

Can easily turn around though (? la Hendo), but I like watching Cody, Adeyemi, Smith - I feel they WANT to play for us, they WANT to do well. Couple that with JBA (cult-esque Steeno figure in the making) and Holt (Iwan Mk2), and it feels good... at the moment...
