it seems to me that what is clear is that they're a bit miffed.

the CEO was approached and just told. Lambert wanted to go. Surely the illegal approach would be if the deal had been struck with Lambert before Colchester were informed, and that doesn't seem to be the case.

They just want a decent compo so that they can bring in a decent manager so their 486 fans don't have a strop.
