ASHTON SIGNS NEW DEAL WITH CANARIES!

CITY today confirmed the news all Canary fans have been longing to hear - that striker Dean Ashton has pledged his future to the Club.

Weeks of intense media speculation regarding a possible pre-transfer deadline move for the England Under-21 star were ended with today's announcement that Ashton had signed a one-year contract extension.

Ashton has hit the back of the net nine times in 20 appearances since joining City from Crewe in a Club record deal worth ?4m in January.

The new deal runs until June 2009, with a further option year which could take his stay in Norfolk to June 2010.

City boss Nigel Worthington, Chairman Roger Munby and the player himself all declared themselves delighted with the news at a press conference at Carrow Road this afternoon.

Ashton commented: "I feel my ambition is matched by Norwich City Football Club. By signing an extension to my contract I feel our shared ambition is clearly demonstrated.
