Well I wish Paul Lambert all the best, because what he has inherited is beyond comprehension. A friend of mine sat near him last night and he was constantly scribbling notes. No doubt writing "sell him, let him go, joke etc."
Living near Brentford I know some of the locals and it was interesting to guage their reaction after the game. They were shocked as to how bad the central midfield pairing were and Doherty and Drury came out badly too.
What really disappoints me is that when we conceded last night you look for a leader of men to rally the troops. There is noone who can do this, but they all just stand around with slumping shoulders and drooped heads.
I hate to see players regress, but sadly Drury is finished. He probably has been for two years now and I hate to see that in a player who was Mr Consistent several years ago. He was roasted by that Sam Saunders last night.
Coldplay's Chris Martin looked half decent when he came on. At least he showed a touch of class and had a go. You cannot fault the committment of Cody and Holt, but the service was better on the last train to Norwich last night (which took seven hours to arrive i believe)...
Hoolahan huffed and puffed, but he couldn't get going and Whaley just doesn't do enough.
What alarmed me most was the ineptness of Gill and Tudur-Jones or Ed Tudorpole (whatever his name is). Gunny made such a song and dance about signing Gill, but he was terrible last night. Absolutely no quality whatsoever and as Tudorpole is just a lumbering great oxx. Perhaps we should start a chant to swords of a thousand men in a welsh accent from Ten Pole Tudor...someone come up with some lyrics. He is dire.
I could barely get a view in the first half, but just bobbed up and down singing Tom's Diner as it was more fun than watching the industrious City trying to get at a very stretched Bees defence. There was more sting in my cup of oxo than our attacking efforts.
It really was torture last night and the unrest amongst the fans in that second half wasn't pleasant. I thought the players might get lynched at one stage....
I did see Delia and Mr Wynn Jones (puffing away as per usual) get into a chauffer driven car afterwards outside the front of the ground. Signing autographs and appearing in photos I couldn't help but feel disgusted with their lack of football competence and knowledge. Cheap options and Worthington was called to take back his job before Gunn was appointed. Could you have imagined the reaction of fans if that had happened. Such naiviety.
I don't want to be seen as a soft touch anymore and that's what we have become. Little old Norwich when we are a big club and have a fanbase that is the envy of 90% of all teams in the divisions...
However, maybe McNally will bring that hard stance back. I think he's a typical marketing man who is coming out with some claptrap already like this great club Norwich etc. Do me a favour cut out the marketing nonsense as I won't stand for that, but at least he has acted quickly and let us see what Lambert can do.
One thing is for sure that we will beat Wycombe on Saturday. It just happens when a manager takes over for the first game (even Gunny won 4-0 against Barnsley).
It's a long road ahead and I have no expectations this season. I just want to see that conviction back...
