McNall and the new board didn't want Gunn - they probably thought the old board had lost the f**king plot.
Given that recruitment was under way and the job had just been given to him, they clearly felt they couldn't just sack him on the spot - but they knew (like the rest of us), that this was a big car crash waiting to happen.
Maybe they hoped to be proved wrong, maybe they hoped they wouldn't have to make the decision they saw as inevitable. But after last weekend? Proved right and then some - making the boardroom 'told you so' discussions all the easier.
Is this really the horror you make out? Not nice for Gunny, but then he's not a manager so what exactly can he have expected?
And compare this to the drawn Worthy hell of three years ago. The reality is that - in terms of league games/points - Gunn has been sacked one game too late. Better that than one whole f**king season.
