sounds like you need to give your hard drive a good clean

Take it out of the machine and VERY CAREFULLY open it up using a specially adapted screwdriver, a kitchen knife or a chisel.

Remove the disks and give them a good scrub with some of that mechanics soap (I find Fairy Liquid + sugar works well too).

Glue it all back together with araldite or chewing gum and then take the whole lot to PC world and ask them to do a reinstalls.
