R T Chase appointed Stringer after Brown left - the Cheap Option, as it is commonly known.
R T Chase did NOT want Walker as manager (preferring Phil Neal) but was over-ruled by the Board.
R T Chase appointed John Deehan as manager - who took our European side and got it relegated (76 pts from his 72 (lge?) games in charge)
R T Chase appointed Gary Megson as manager - TWICE - and Megson's record of 24 pts from 27 games was also pretty rubbish.
The only manager that Chase got right was O'Neill, and he left when he realised his employer was withholding information about the dire state of the club finances.
Chase was proud of the fact that we sold players to survive; he did not dip into his own pocket for anything, and would certainly not have agrred with the kind of financial stretch that took us to the Championship in 03/04.
Rosy old history glasses.
