I think it would be so easy to shuffle him 'upstairs'

(not to heaven) and even if it were just Crook and Butterworth and the performances didn't improve (they have to don't they?) then at least Gunn's temporary aberration would be minimised cf his great reputation.

Of course he might now win the next 45 games.
