Intertran said it means Sorry, but it's not a terribly reliable webby

The interesting thing is how different languages signal regret. For instance the welsh often say "Mae'n drwg arna i" which literally means something like "I'm naughty".

A girl I once worked with asked me what "Lo siento" means, literally, and I said it means "I feel it". She said that seemed a daft way of saying sorry, and I pointed out what "I am sorry" originally meant, or used to mean, which was basically "I am wretched and inferior". I am quite ready to be corrected on that, by the way...........
