This season saw the introduction of loads of new rules and regulations, which meant all the teams had to build pretty much completely new cars.
Brawn, who were Honda last year, had such a sh*t car then that they basically gave up on the season half way thru, and started working on their new car for this year.
Whereas Maclaren had Hamilton in a really tight race for the championship, and so focused pretty much entirely on their current car, right up until the last race.
Maybe for that reason,, maybe for others, when this season started, Brawn had a car that was quicker than
anyone else's. (partly cos Ross Brawn appears to be a bit of a design genius.)
And Maclaren had a car that was among the slowest.
Button drove the fast Brawn really smoothly and well, and won 6 of the first 7 races.
As the season has gone on, all the teams have been finding out how to adapt to the new rules to improve their performance. In particular, Maclaren have made massive steps forwards.
Meanwhile, Brawn have actually gone backwards - they've made a change to the car which has actually made it handle worse. But they can't figure out which change they made f*cked it up, or why. (This can happen this year, because they're not allowed to do loads of between-races testing like they always could before.)
So Maclaren have got (loads) faster, everyone else have got a bit faster, and Brawn have got slower.
Was that too long?
